Healing in Layers: How Spiritual Coaching Complemented My Yoga Practice

As part of my local wellness blog, I love sharing the practices, people and spaces that genuinely support our community’s wellbeing. Yoga has been the foundation of my healing journey for years — teaching me how to breathe through discomfort, trust my body and stay present when things feel uncertain.
But recently, as I closed some deeply personal chapters linked to old trauma and life transitions, I realised healing doesn’t always happen in one dimension. Sometimes it unfolds in layers.
That’s what led me to explore spiritual coaching with Jamie Oliver of Spacegirl — and what I discovered added a whole new depth to the work I was already doing on the mat...
Yoga has been my anchor... for years now.
It’s taught me how to sit with discomfort. How to breathe through intensity. How to trust my body. How to trust myself. On the mat, I’ve learned that growth doesn’t come from avoiding the hard stuff — it comes from staying with it.
But recently, I have been closing some big chapters linked to old trauma, old patterns, and old versions of me. And even though I knew it was right… the process has been exhausting.
Anybody committed to their healing journey knows it isn’t linear — quite the opposite. The deeper you go, the more exhausting it can feel. And let’s be honest — if healing was our full-time job, it would probably be a lot easier. But we don’t have that luxury in western society. Not many of us anyway.
I’m not just talking physically tired. I’m talking soul tired.
Yoga was still supporting me — but I could feel I needed something more. Something deeper. Something that complemented my spiritual journey as well as my physical practice.
Enter Jamie Oliver (No, not the chef)
Jamie — is a beautiful soul that one of my students introduced me through bringing her to one of my workshops.
Following this, we met to initially discuss prospects of a collaboration. With Jamie’s tarot readings, energy work and her faith in divine support, it felt like the perfect “woo woo” crossover for those open to things science can’t always explain.
But I left that conversation thinking: “Hang on. The priority right now isn’t collaboration. The priority is me.” Almost instantly, I knew I needed her support.
Once again, life guided me exactly where I needed to be. It’s such a beautiful way to live — trusting in the unfolding, even when you don’t know what’s around the corner (shock horror — we’re not supposed to). Everything works out as it should. And while this was a pleasant surprise, I’ve learned that even the not-so-pleasant surprises serve their purpose too.
Everything is temporary. Even the hard parts pass.
So instead of planning something business-related, I booked her 4-session one-to-one spiritual coaching package:

And honestly? Best decision.
Every time I walk through her doors (she’s based in Nettleham), everything feels in sync. Jamie is one of those people who just gets it. No judgment. Just someone who has navigated her own challenges, opened herself to something deeper later in life, and bravely chosen to help others do the same.
Gone Are the Days of shoving things in a box.
For a long time, my coping strategy was simple:
Sense an uncomfortable feeling.Suppress it.Move on.
Put it in a box.Tape it shut.Carry it anyway — mostly unconsciously.
Yoga helped me stop running from discomfort. It led me back to myself, and I hope it continues to do that for each of you.
But Jamie’s work helped me go even further — to truly process, release and energetically shift what I was carrying.
Gone are the days of pretending I’m fine.
Gone are the days of spiritual bypassing in the name of “being positive.”
Gone are the days of pushing through when my body is clearly saying no.
This work feels different. It feels honest.
Yoga helped me build trust in my body and feelings.
Jamie has helped me deepen that trust — particularly in my intuition, and in honouring how things genuinely make me feel. Our bodies never lie when we’re truly in touch with ourselves.
Through our sessions, I’ve learned how to:
Hear my inner voice more clearly — not the toxic thought patterns, but the authentic wisdom beneath them
Stop outsourcing my decisions
Accept where I am in my life journey
Trust that I’m supported — even in ways I don’t fully understand (this one’s big)
There’s something incredibly grounding about being guided back to yourself.
Not told what to do.Not fixed. Not analysed.
Just gently reminded that you already know.
The “Woo Woo” Evolution let's call it lol.
If you’d told me a few years ago I’d be openly talking about energy work and spiritual support, I might have laughed. But then thats the same about me being yoga teacher having my own yoga studio - what a rollercoaster of a life journey. And yet — here we are.
As if I couldn’t get any more “woo woo” through yoga… I have. And it feels good. But for me, it doesn’t feel airy-fairy or detached from reality. It feels grounded. Practical. Deep. Jamie holds space beautifully. I always leave feeling lighter — sometimes tired from energetic shifts — but lighter all the same. There’s nothing quite like trusting yourself, especially if you’ve lived with anxiety or self-doubt. That’s something Jamie has helped me strengthen immensely.
Energy work isn’t about escaping life — it’s about moving through it without carrying unnecessary weight. If you come to my classes, you’ll know we often talk about letting go of what no longer serves us. This feels like that — just on another level. Maybe a parallel level, maybe deeper, i don't know, but it feels powerful.
There were sessions where I physically felt shifts — buzzing sensations, or the feeling of weight lifting. Clearer. Lighter. Like something had finally exhaled inside me. When you’re closing trauma-linked chapters, that kind of support is invaluable. An alternative (or complement) to therapy.
To be clear — I absolutely believe talking therapy is powerful and important.
But I’ve also learned that:
Sometimes it’s hard to find the right therapist
Sometimes clinical approaches don’t fully resonate
Sometimes we want something more holistic
Sometimes we want spiritual growth to be part of our healing
For me, spiritual coaching was the right support for this season.
It complimented my yoga practice beautifully:
Yoga helped me stay present in my body
Spiritual coaching helped me shift the deeper energetic layers
Together, they’ve created alignment instead of just survival

Final Thoughts
Yoga taught me how to sit with discomfort. Jamie helped me move through it during some more complex chapters of my life.
This season isn’t about pushing. It’s about aligning. Releasing. Trusting. And for the first time in a long time, I don’t feel like I’m carrying everything alone.
But feeling closer to alignment:
Mind. Body. Energy. Soul.
SO... if you’re in a chapter-closing, identity-shifting, slightly-exhausted-but-growing season… maybe this is your sign to explore support that meets you on every level. Or simply if you wish to try something else.. maybe check out her website and see if anything resonates.
And yes — maybe allow yourself to get a little more “woo woo.”
Sometimes the only thing you really need… is an open mind.
