FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is yoga and what are its benefits?
Yoga is an ancient practice that combines physical postures, breathing techniques, meditation, and ethical principles to promote overall well-being. It offers numerous benefits, such as increased flexibility, improved strength and balance, stress reduction, and enhanced mental clarity.
Is yoga suitable for beginners or people with no prior experience?
Yes, yoga is suitable for people of all skill levels, including beginners. Inner Lifetime offers beginner classes and workshops to help newcomers feel comfortable and learn the basic poses and techniques.
Are there different types of yoga? Which one is best for me?
Yes — and at Inner Lifetime, we offer a wide range of styles so there's always a class that meets you where you are on any given day. All of our classes are beginner-friendly, with options and adjustments offered throughout. We measure the intensity of each class on a scale from Sooth (the gentlest) through to Sweat (the most physically demanding), so you can easily find what suits your mood and energy level.
Here's a quick guide to our class styles:
**Sooth — Rest, restore and reset**
• Restorative Yoga — Gentle, supported poses using bolsters and blankets, designed to help your body fully unwind. Perfect if you're feeling stressed, burnt out, or struggling with sleep.
• Yin, Nidra + Sound** — A deeply relaxing combination of long-held Yin poses, guided Yoga Nidra (a form of conscious rest), and a soothing sound bath. Many students call this their weekly reset button.
• Kundalini Yin, Meditation + Sound** — Blends Kundalini energy work with Yin stretches, meditation and sound healing for a calming, grounding experience.
**Stretch — Slow, deep and releasing**
- Yin Yoga — A calm, floor-based practice where poses are held for longer to target deep connective tissues. Especially popular if you carry stiffness from sitting, want to improve flexibility, or need something that eases stress and nervous-system overload.
- Heated Yin— All the benefits of Yin with gentle warmth added to help your body soften more deeply into the stretches.
**Strength — Build, flow and balance**
- Hatha Yoga — A slower-paced class focused on the foundations: posture set-up, breathing techniques and simple sequences. The ideal starting point if you're new to yoga or returning after a break.
- Vinyasa — Links breath with movement for a more dynamic, flowing practice. Great for building strength, improving flexibility and switching off mentally.
- Vin-Yin — The best of both worlds: a Vinyasa flow to energise followed by Yin poses to slow things down and stretch it all out.
- Yogalates — A fusion of yoga and Pilates focused on deep core activation, intentional movement and full-body strengthening.
**Stamina — Step it up**
- Power Vinyasa — A stronger, faster-paced flow for when you want more of a physical challenge. Still beginner-friendly, with options to scale up or down.
**Sweat — Heat, strength and release**
- **Hot Yoga** — A dynamic practice in a heated room that supports mobility, circulation and a deeper sense of release. Great if you want to sweat, strengthen and leave feeling lighter.
**Specialist classes**
- Hormone Yoga— Specifically designed for women experiencing perimenopause, menopause, PMS or PMDD. Tailored movement, breathwork, journaling and a supportive women's circle.
- Chair Yoga*— Accessible, supportive and restorative. Ideal if you have mobility limitations or prefer a seated practice.
- Mini Me & Me— A fun, family yoga session to share the benefits of yoga with your little one.
- Power Pilates — Intentional, controlled movement with deep core activation and strengthening use of props.
**Not sure where to start?**
If you're completely new, we'd suggest trying a Hatha or Yin class first to ease yourself in, then exploring from there. But there really is no wrong choice — every class is designed to welcome you exactly as you are. Drop us a message if you'd like a personal recommendation.
How often should I practice yoga to see results?
The frequency of your practice depends on your personal goals and schedule. However, consistency is key. Practicing yoga 2-3 times a week can help you experience noticeable improvements in flexibility, strength, and stress levels.
I have an existing injury/medical condition. Can I still practice yoga?
It's important to consult with your healthcare professional before starting any new exercise regimen, including yoga. In many cases, yoga can be adapted to accommodate injuries or medical conditions, but it's crucial to inform your instructor about any limitations or concerns to ensure a safe and beneficial practice. Ultimately you are accountable for your own health and well being and will be required to tick a disclaimer for each class acknowledging this.

Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?
Not at all — and this is one of the biggest myths we hear. You don't need to be flexible to start yoga; yoga is how you *become* more flexible, stronger, and more comfortable in your body over time. At Inner Lifetime, our classes are designed to meet you exactly where you are. Every pose comes with options, modifications, and props (blocks, bolsters, straps) so you can find a version that works for your body today. Some of our most dedicated students started out barely able to touch their knees, let alone their toes. Flexibility is a byproduct of practice, not a prerequisite. If anything, the less flexible you are, the more you have to gain.
What happens in my first class?
We know your first class can feel a little nerve-wracking, so here's exactly what to expect:
Arrive 5–10 minutes early so you have time to take off your shoes, say hello, and settle in. If it's your very first visit, let your teacher know — they'll make sure you feel welcome and comfortable.
You'll find a mat already set up for you in the studio, along with any props you might need (blocks, bolsters, blankets). Just pick a spot and make yourself comfortable — there's no "wrong" place to be.
The class will start gently. Your teacher will guide you through every movement with clear instructions, and there's absolutely no expectation to "keep up" or get everything right straight away. You're encouraged to rest whenever you need to, and nobody will single you out or put you on the spot.
At the end of every class, you'll lie down in Savasana (final relaxation) — most people say this is their favourite part. You'll leave feeling calmer, looser, and probably wondering why you didn't try it sooner.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, we ask that you book your space in advance through our website. This helps us manage class sizes so that everyone gets the attention and space they deserve. You can book a single class, use a block plan, or attend as part of a membership — all bookable online through our timetable page.
If a class is full, it's worth checking back as spaces sometimes open up when someone cancels. If you need to cancel, please do so at least 2 hours before the class starts so that someone else can take your spot.
What if I need to rest during class?
Please rest whenever you need to — this is not only okay, it's actively encouraged. Listening to your body is one of the most important parts of yoga, and knowing when to pause is a sign of strength, not weakness.
If at any point during class you need a break, simply come into Child's Pose (your teacher will show you this at the start) or just sit or lie quietly on your mat. Nobody will judge you, nobody will stare, and your teacher will carry on guiding the class. You can rejoin whenever you're ready.
At Inner Lifetime, we believe yoga should never feel like a performance. It's your practice, your pace, and your body — always.
