Hello

My name is Jade Canavan

I believe that yoga comes to people when the time is right and that, just as life is a journey, so too is the practice of yoga.

For me the time came when the pressures of a corporate career, demands of being a single mum and some pretty tough life events caught up with me and collided. My health rapidly declined as a result, and something had to change.

INNER LIFETIME YOGA CLASSES

All classes at Inner Lifetime are beginner friendly with intermediate adjustments, some are more physically and mentally challenging than others.  The intensity of the classes are measured from Sooth through to Sweat.

Heated Yoga

Join Inner lifetime's take on 'hot yoga'. With underfloor heating and temperatures of up to 30c, this class is designed to help you feel cleansed. The heat also helps make the muscles more pliable and improves range of motion. Each class is one hour long with dimmable lights so you don't feel exposed during your purifying 'sweat-a-thon'.

This is the most intense class at Inner Lifetime as your heart rate rises to try and keep you cool. This means more energy is required and you burn more calories! Yoga teaches us resilience of the mind and body in many ways - adding heat to the disciplined process of breathing and moving mindfully is an even greater challenge of endurance.

Because of the soothing heat you are less likely to have aching muscles and connective tissues the next day - that doesn't mean non at all though ;-) The mind associates the sweating with cleansing, so can have a powerful cleansing feel and 'glow' for the body.

Please come to the class well hydrated and bring your own hot non-slip yoga towel.
Non-slip heated yoga towels can be hired for £3 per class if required.

Heated Yin

This 60 minute Heated yin class is designed to help you sink into an internal state of awareness. This class differs to the 'Yin Yoga' class on offer at Inner Lifetime by introducing heat, to help the connective tissues relax, and a dimmed light environment, to help encourage your inner journey. It also reduces distraction and helps you sink into your own little world on your yoga mat. While this class is heated, since poses are held, primarily on the ground, this session does not get as hot as the 'Heated Yoga' classes, as you are staying still. Yin yoga is the opposite to the dynamic strength building yang classes, and as such it focuses on a calmer internal state. Yin is a more meditative style class that holds mainly floor poses usually between 3 and 6 minutes. This class embraces stillness while working with the connective tissues throughout the body (including ligaments, tendons, fascia, bones and cartilage) which requires a different kind of physical exertion. Yin poses do not require muscles to be activated whcih makes this class much less exerting, however perhaps not challenging. By holding the yin poses for longer, this class encourages interoception, bringing ones awareness inwards to observe physical and mental sensations/ emotions. Since the connective tissues play a bigger role in mobility and range of movement than muscles, this is an excellent class for those wishing to improve movement or increase flexibility. *Anybody suffering with hot flashes may be triggered by this class - please reach out if you have any questions* *Inner Lifetime blankets, cushions, straps and eye pillows are used in the winter, if this class becomes a 'sweatathon' in the summer, equipment will be reduced to help protect from sweat damage

Hormone Yoga

Hormone Yoga is designed for women and shares specially adapted yoga poses, breathing techniques and mindful meditation practices to help positively manage periods of hormonal disruption. It is a 90 minute class to allow time for all aspects of class and to enable students to settle into the space without feeling rushed.  Suitable for all abilities and ages, this class incorporates Menopause Yoga (MY) and other techniques to help women generally suffering with symptoms related to their hormones. Whether that be physical or mental, this class is designed to help take some control back of your body and your perceptions of it. It aims to educate and empower women so that you can embrace any changes occurring in your mind and body caused by hormones.

Underpinning Hormone Yoga is a positive philosophy whereby every moment is seen as an opportunity to take a pause in your busy life and make positive choices to benefit your well-being. To nurture and nourish yourself, to take time for self study and consciously make effort to learn more about your changing body, mind and emotions.   Each class has a particular theme that aims to ease symptoms women can suffer with due to hormonal changes, whether that be due to a stage in menopause or your menstrual cycle. Since Jade has experienced both of these - she is passionate about sharing simple hacks that help alleviate symptoms associated with hormones and offers a safe space in a. women's circle to discuss.  This class always begins with a women’s circle where the theme of the class in troduced and students have the option to share their experiences and generally input into how they are doing. Furthermore, this class includes, journaling, pranayama, asana and inspiring prose, to help encourage women accept their body for how it is, and to positively reframe any negative narratives associated with female hormones.

Correcting common misconceptions throughout each class helps educate students on the true philosophy behind yoga practice.

 Vinyasa

This one hour Vinyasa class includes pranayama (breathwork), asana (physical postures) and meditation (mindfulness) with verbal guidance, encouragement and the use of props throughout. A beginner/intermediate vinyasa class, each week will have a different focus theme, driving the dynamic flow of asana with the breath. Verbal guidance, encouragement and use of props will be used, making this a perfect class for those new to yoga, or those that enjoy a low-impact class. While these classes are beginner/intermediate level and include the foundations of yoga, in-session adaptations to the flow also make it great for those who wish to challenge themselves further.

This Vinyasa flow class is a style of yoga that is practised by linking conscious breath with fluid movement. Several Yoga asanas are sequenced to flow together- a little bit like a dance - co-ordinating movement with breath. The Vinyasa practice becomes a moving meditation that creates strength, freedom and fluidity in the body and mind. This inclusive and nurturing class will cover both strength building and flexibility for a full range of body types and abilities and is designed to correct common misconceptions by educating on the true philosophy behind yoga practice.

Vin - Yin

This one hour Vin to Yin class include asana (physical postures) along side meditation (mindfulness) and/or pranayama (breathwork). These classes are beginner friendly with the foundations of yoga interlaced, including alterations for those who wish to challenge themselves further.

Here we combine different styles of yoga, Vinyasa flow and Yin flow merged into a Vin to Yin class. Classes will cover both strength building and flexibility whilst being respectful to different body types with different abilities.  A key theme throughout these classes is self-love, compassion, and self study. Vin and Yin is a marriage of the strong, yang Vinyasa Yoga with the calming Yin Yoga. Active, yet grounding sun salutations and standing flows are offered in the first half of class to enliven the body and chase away any fatigue. The Yin half of class alternatively, offers passive, seated and supine poses that are held for anywhere from 3 –6 minutes on each side. The Yin aspect helps to switch off fight-or-flight mode, promoting balance throughout the nervous system, encouraging a sense of peace and relaxation.

Correcting common misconceptions throughout each class helps educate students on the true philosophy behind yoga practice. Using accessible asana with alterations and props makes this class a perfect starting point or for those wishing to improve their technique.

Guided Meditation

(with Tibetan singing bowls)

This 45 minute meditation class uses a variety of meditation styles to cultivate awareness of your habitual thoughts.

Visualisation Meditation - Helps to focus your mind and apply to your wellbeing. Useful for those with very  active mind.

Minimal Meditation - Helps to normalise sitting in stillness by using awareness of your own body to stay present.

Yoga Nidra - Helps you enter a delta state of mind which is the healing state, deeper than the theta state in meditation.

The aim of each class is to help you access the present moment, freeing you from the burden of the past and present, helping you to create and strengthen new neurological pathways to well-being.  A compassionate and intimate space is held to help you settle into a trusted space with yourself, encouraging your body to move away from your fight or flight response, and into one of calm stillness.

Tibetan singing bowls are used in these classes for their healing abilities, helping you to clear any emotional blockages or negative energy.

Svadhyaya Book Club

This free book club is for anybody wishing to practice the art of self study which is the fourth Niyama of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras - Svadhyaya. It is intended to deepen ones' understanding with themselves. The word itself is made up of 'Sva', meaning own, self, or the human soul, and 'Adhyaya', meaning lesson, lecture, or reading, and can imply the practice of studying scriptures, as well as a practice of studying the Self.

Here at Inner Lifetime,  yoga is not just a class for you to come and strengthen your muscles, or stress your connective tissues, we also want to expand our minds and this class does exactly that.  This class invites you to come and discuss wide concepts of humanity, helping you to bring awareness to how your behaviours are driven from your approach and philosophy to life. You are more than your thoughts and emotions, and this class is designed to help not only understand yourself, but also to awaken to your true inner beauty and embrace yourself fully as you continue to grow and evolve.

Each book discussed is intended to help you learn more about yourself and discuss concepts with like minded others who are too on a journey with themselves.

Restorative

This 60 minute restorative yoga class uses props and blankets to help you find comfort in the different restorative asanas (positions).  Restorative yoga is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. Minimal movements occur during this class you take a restorative class, means you may hardly move and do just a few postures over the course of an hour.

This class is  mellow and low-energy, making it a great complement to more active practices (as well as our busy lives) and an excellent antidote to stress. Stillness is a powerful practice and enables one to go inwards and connective to their inner self through interoception.

Similar to other styles of yoga, restorative yoga offers a number of physical and mental health benefits, with the added bonus of promoting deep rest and relaxation, which can itself improve overall well-being.

WHAT MY CLIENTS SAY

"Who would of thought I could get so much comfort and warmth from being covered with a blanket, with a group of strangers. - yet here I am, as I begin my second spring, my newly re-formed , strong, positive self. Listening to the vibrations of the gongs, whilst being huddled up, embracing my bolster like a baby cuddling it’s mothers placenta. Here is the safe place that I’ve needed for so long. Just the opportunity to breathe in unison with my newly found menopausal community, a community like me that needs to be listened too and understood. A community of strength and kindness, a hand in the dark, a glint of light in a place where I have felt so lost for so long!"
